Teachers Turned Students !

Dear all

Today, on 3 October 2009, a workshop for teachers was organized in our School. Eminent educationists and teachers' trainers Prof. B. L. Handoo and Dr. Subhash Arora graced the session and shared some rare teaching methodologies with our teachers.

"Capacity and competency building of teachers" was how it was tagged. About 40 teachers enthusiastically attended it to hone their teaching skills.Someone put it right-"Who dares to teach must never cease to learn..." and hence, it ought to be a great learning experience for all the teachers. It was a unique opportunity for all the teachers present to update and upgrade themselves for the sake of their students. The workshop was a real encouragement to move forward...take a leave from the traditional methodology of chalk and talk. Anecdotes and stories helped a lot.

The interactive environment helped to discuss and eventually discover the solutions for the problems put up by the teachers. Every teacher (who became a student there!) was given chance to express and share his/her views.

The trainers discussed about emotional quotient (E. Q.), learning styles, basic skills of teaching, effective teaching tips, and 7 C's of the teaching-learning process as Communication, Content, Confidence, Clarity, Coherence, Computer literacy and Continuous updating.

They also told about the sources available such as websites and books one must read in this ever lasting process of attaining another level of greatness.

Following are some golden words which made the day all the more lovely :

* The mediocre teacher tells, Good teacher explains, The superior teacher demonstrates, The great teacher inspires.
* Good teachers have good sense of humor, have a command of the content they teach , set high expectations for their students and hold the students to those expectations, are good managers of time, can lead or follow, as the situation demands, don't take things as granted.
* You learn to teach by teaching, by making mistakes, learning from them and improving.
* "When my attitudes are right, there's no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me."

And these are some of the expected qualities in a teacher : Creativity, Flexibility,Confidence,Patience,True compassion for their students, Understanding,The ability to look at life in a different way and to explain a topic in a different way,Dedication to excellence, Willingness to help student achieve,Pride in student’s accomplishments, Passion for life, Open to Change and finally a Good Sense of Humour.
