Celebrating Our Independence

Dear all

Today is 15 August 2009. Exactly 62 years have passed since we, Indians, under the very courageous leadership of the likes of Gandhi, Nehru, Bhagat Singh and many others, won our independence from the imperialism of British rule.

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance ... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again ......... Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru
These are not mere words of Nehru ... It is an entire nation roaring, declaring and therefore celebrating its hard-earned Independence. It was a proud moment then (We wonder if we really lived up to their expectations) !

Anyways, the day is a national holiday in India. All over the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies are conducted. The main event takes place in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts. A colourful pageant showcasing India’s cultural diversity, symbolic depictions of the country’s advances in science and technology, and a joint display of India’s military capabilities by the armed forces are an essential part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Students of our school also, religiously, conducted a special assembly in the name of India's 63rd Independence Day. Cultural programmes like songs, dance, and drama marked the event. Though it was the magnificent march past which stole the show away. Keep up the good work friends and keep growing with each passing moment ...
Facts apart, we want to know how YOU, as an individual, justify your privilege of being a Free Indian. Tell us why do you deserve this tag...Or rather, Do we really deserve it ? We hope, we really wake up to life and freedom and DO something so that no one dares to put up a question mark on our status of being a Proud, Free Indian...

Let's flood the comments section to discuss our duties while we enjoy our privileges (Freedom Of Speech is just one of the million rights we enjoy everyday, without even realising their values !). Lets unite once again to fight the newly arrived challenges of this era ...

This time, we could not provide you any links to know more about it because we believe nobody else can tell us better... We ought to rediscover our own definitions or make new ones to possibly mark the beginning of a new chapter... On that note, Happy Independence Day to all ...

Also, following is what Aakash (E-member) has to share with us :

India became a 62-year-old independent nation.First of all, we should salute our soldiers who gave their life for us, in 1962 Indo-China war,1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, 1999 Kargil war and saved us from the jaws of the enemy many times. They are ever ready to provide us safety, security and tension free sleep. Our scientists have done extraordinary work and India has attained the capability to sendsatellites and rockets into space and we are now working on a Moon mission...
