National Reading Day
" Reading is the gateway
skill that makes all other learnings possible "
- Barack Obama
The National Education Policy
2020 has emphasized reading as a key skill for foundational learning. Honouring
the father of Library Movement, the late P. N. Panicker, National Reading Day
is celebrated on 19th June every year.
In order to mark this occasion,
students were suggested titles and authors to read during summer vacation.
Students were encouraged to give an alternative ending to a story they read or
write a letter to their favourite character, design a creative book cover. They
also wrote summary, biography of the stories, authors they admire.
Such activities provide a
foundation for building confidence and foster interest for Reading.
