Vedic Mathematics and Mind Power Concentration Workshop

Dear All

The workshop on 20 April 2011 was conducted by Mrs. Aditi Singhal was an altogether great experience. Besides learning the techniques of Vedic mathematics, the workshop brought new hopes and aspirations. It thought us new and interesting learning techniques and tricks for quick calculations successfully helped in nurturing our mind with positive thoughts.

All in all, it was a great learning experience.

She will be holding a two days workshop in the CRPF School on       2 May and 3 May 2011. It will include smart calculation techniques, memory techniques, mind and concentration techniques. All the students (class VII and VIII) who are interested in attending the workshop may contact Mrs. Rajul Tiwari for the details.

Kite Flying Can Hamper Electricity Supply and Endanger Lives

Dear All

 

·         Kite flying should be avoided since the wires of kites are metallic coated which, when in contact with live electricity wires, cause them to trip and hence disrupt power supply.

·         The metallic coated manjha is a good conductor of electricity and can prove life threatening as it can electrocute people.

·         According to estimates, tripping of just one 33/66 KV overhead line can disrupt power supply to over 10,000 residents of an area. Similarly, tripping of a single 11 KV line can affect over 2,500 residents.

·         During Independence Day celebrations in 2009, over 100 such tripping were reported. The extent of delays/ damage can well be ascertained in Delhi!

·         Kite flying in restricted areas such as Metro installations and other stipulated areas can also invite hefty penalties.

Dr Tathagat Tulsi, 22, becomes Professor Tulsi at IIT Bombay

He completed high school at the age of 9, had a B.Sc at 10, an M.Sc in Physics at 12, and a PhD in Quantum Computing from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, at 21. In 2003, Time named him among the world's seven most gifted youngsters. Now, at age 22, Patna-born prodigy Tathagat Avtar Tulsi has become possibly the youngest assistant professor at IIT.

Tulsi will teach Physics at IIT Bombay from July 19, having chosen the institute over Waterloo University, Canada, and the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Bhopal, both of which had offered him jobs.

"I turned down Waterloo despite an impressive pay package because I do not want to go abroad now," Tulsi told The Indian Express over the phone from Patna. "My dream is to set up a lab focused on quantum computation in India, and one day help develop a largescale quantum computation-based supercomputer. IIT Bombay offers me these possibilities."

IIT Bombay confirmed that Tulsi is set to join its faculty. In an appointment letter sent on June 30, IIT Bombay Director Prof Devang V Khakar informed Tulsi that the institute's Board of Governors was pleased to offer him assistant professorship on contract at the Department of Physics.

Hailed early as a wonder boy, Tulsi suffered humiliation in August 2001 when a delegation of scientists taken by the Department of Science & Technology to Lindau in Germany for an interaction with Nobel laureates, suggested that he was a "fake prodigy" who had "mugged up" jargon which he spouted unthinkingly.

A hurt Tulsi went into a shell for several years. He returned to news this February after he became the youngest holder of a PhD in India.

"Back then it hurt a lot. But I have put the humiliation behind me, and now feel that I have achieved something. I am very happy to join an IIT as faculty. I am looking forward to teaching and research," Tulsi said.

CRPF to march on Bollywood tunes by Mahadevan and Joshi

The world''s largest para-military force, CRPF, will have a dash of Bollywood with national-award-winning lyricist Prasoon Joshi and singer Shankar Mahadevan putting together its theme song. The four-minute patriotic song, with words ''Jai Kara Jai Kara'', praising the over 2.5 lakh personnel of the force would be unveiled by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on the forces'' raising day on November 27 in Gurgaon.

The song reminds the troops of the sacrifice of Hot Springs in Ladakh where 10 CRPF personnel on October 21, 1959 sacrificed their lives after their patrol party was attacked by the Chinese, official sources said. Since then, October 21 is observed as the National Police martyrs memorial day by all police and central para-military forces.

The song will inspire the men to follow and lead by the example of valour and courage in performing their duties in various parts of the country which involves tackling extremism, counter-insurgency, militancy and other law and order duties, sources said. Joshi and Mahadevan have rendered soulful and energising tune and vocals for the song.

The CRPF, came into existence as Crown Representatives Police on July 27, 1939. It was named the Central Reserve Police Force on enactment of its Act on December 28, 1949 and the force is celebrating its 70 years this time. To know more about CRPF, click here.
